Enza Giannone Hosig is a multi-disciplinary theatre artist, educator, and scholar whose work with youth spans over 20 years. Dr. Giannone Hosig holds a Ph.D. in Theatre (Theatre for Youth) from Arizona State University and a M.A. in Educational Theatre with teaching credentials from New York University. Her body of research and work with youth has been recognized with the prestigious Winifred Ward Scholarship Award by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, the selective Dissertation Fellowship from ASU’s Division of Graduate Studies, and most recently with the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Arts-Based Educational Research Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association. Dr. Giannone Hosig’s specializations in drama with youth and communities are distinguished by a commitment to arts education and arts-based educational research, applied and social justice theatre, community engagement, and direction of TYA plays and devised drama. She has presented her practice and research internationally at the ASSITEJ World Congress in Sweden, for which her ITYARN conference paper was chosen for international publication, and the Hemispheric Institute Encuentro 2014, and nationally at the Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed, American Alliance for Theatre and Education, American Society of Theatre Research, American Educational Research Association, and ASU Language & Literacy conferences, the Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social Derechos Humanos Institute, and various NYU Educational Theatre symposiums. Beyond her facilitation and research, Dr. Giannone Hosig has directed and performed in many adult and children’s theatre productions throughout the U.S. Currently, she is an independent scholar and works as Executive Director of Via Arts, an arts service company she co-founded in 2015.
